Time: Thursday, 9 July 2026
Venue: MPI for Social Anthropology, Halle/S.
While the existence of the research group “Integration and Conflict along the Upper Guinea Coast of West Africa” at the MPI for Social Anthropology has come to an end, a global network of scholarship on the Upper Guinea Coast region continues to exist, not least as the result of the research group’s work over 18 years. To carry into the future the ambition to promote research and awareness concerning this particular region of the world and as a final get-together at the institute, participants in this workshop will discuss how their work as (former) members of the research group has impacted their own and their PhD students and colleagues’ work up to the present day – in terms of themes, conceptual approaches, methodological and field work practices, and their lives as anthropologists within and beyond the world of social sciences. We will discuss how to network in the future and to reactivate and develop further our Upper Guinea Coast website/blog to enable it to function as a platform to publish online scientific and policy-oriented articles, share news on events, (new) publications, projects and jobs that concern the Upper Guinea Coast region, thereby contributing to the sustained continuity and vitality of the global Upper Guinea Coast network.
